Validation code (Newbe alert)
31 March 2007 19:42
Anonymous I am using Drake v0.3.8 Beta rev.2388 from SVN

I tried searching the forums and poking around some of the threads but could not find mention on this issue.

I can not see the validation code when entering a new user or submitting the "contact us" form. It appears as just a small slice of picture but no characters or anything...

When "upgrading" I did just over write an install of release 0.3.7 rev 1982, deleted the config file, installed into a new database. Did I cause my own grief or is there a known bug in the validation code stuff?

www.ferryside.net in case you are curious where is it being used.

thanks

Anonymous Please, no more use SVN versions for production websites! That usually means data loss because we cannot support the work-in-progress databases of SVN versions!!!

You have been lucky in this case because there haven't been database changes since 2388, so you will probably not loose any data when v0.3.8 will be released (very soon).

About the CAPTCHA issue: I will tell you more ASAP, maybe there is a bug in 0.3.8

Anonymous don't sweat it. I understand it is not released code... I do not mind being on the edge etc. It is just my personal play site where I host a few files and such. Sorry to worry you. You do not need to rush on my account. I just wanted to report what I thought may be a bug. I am only new to Drake so did not know if just applying the files over the existing install was ok to do.

Anonymous Apologies sad It was not my intent to look like rude.

In such case, you are doing well! Thank you for the testing effort!

I hope you will continue to tell us about other issues, we will help you in all ways we can - if you use SVN and report the bugs you are actually working side by side with us smile Thank you!

About the CAPTCHA issue: I don't yet know what's the reason, I will post another message ASAP

Anonymous Your captcha is not displaying because you do not have freetype support in your GD libraries; the SVN version has been fixed to switch to textual captcha (as it should) in such cases, so there was an actual bug, thank you for individuating it!

The latest SVN revision will correctly show the textual captcha, however it is suggested to install freetype support (if possible) because the textual captcha is not currently very good

Thanks again! cheerful

Anonymous Thanks I will update and see if that fixes it. However I do not really know how I would install freetype support -- it appears to be some kind of text to graphic generator which makes sense. Is it a php library or something? I am on netfirms (a hosted site) and really have no idea about freetype. Any hints are appreciated. You were never rude -- no worries about that wink I will continue to report bugs and stuff!

thanks

Anonymous If you do not have direct access to your server's configuration there are few chances you can get freetype installed... pinch The best thing you can do is to contact them and ask "to install freetype support for PHP's GD library", they will probably tell you that they can't.

Anyway with the latest 0.3.8 you should get an alternative text captcha instead of a blank one.

Thank you, and keep telling us what's wrong! smile
